Parent Support & Guidance
There is no such thing as a perfect parent. So just be a real one.
- Sue Atkins
At times all parents feel lost or without a clue about what our child might need from us. Imagine what it might feel like if you were able to make sense of what your child was really asking from you.
Just when you feel like you’ve got this whole parenting thing down, your kid throws you for a loop with some pretty weird behavior. Maybe it’s a sudden fear, or an unexpected bout of separation anxiety. Or perhaps you’re going through some transitions in your home (new job schedule, parent going back to work, new sibling on the way, moving…eeek!) and you just want some support to help your child adjust.
Parenting is a hard job and it can sometimes feel like an emotional rollercoaster, especially because children don’t come with an instruction manual! You might sometimes want to ask your children “what do you want from me?” But in actual fact our children ARE the instruction manual. We just need to learn what to look for.
Parent Support and Guidance can be a one-time consultation, or weekly/bi-weekly sessions - whatever you need. I will meet with you/your spouse but will not be meeting your child. Because I will be more direct in giving advice, and expecting you to provide the emotional support to your child in this solution-focused approach, it is different than the relationship we would build if you were a therapy client.
I believe that the best way to support a child's growth and development is through the involvement of the parents. I work closely with parents and caregivers, and offer sessions dedicated to assisting parents with developing strategies related to discipline, schooling, motivation, emotional support, as well as other concerns.
Wonder if you are “doing parenting” right
Feel guilty after your interactions with your kids
Are out of strategies (or are saying, what strategies?)
Have read parenting books and thought, “that’s good in theory, but what about my kid?”
Don’t have patience or energy for parenting
Are NOT on the same page with your partner in parenting
Want to provide better parenting for your child than you had
Then you are in the right place!
